Stortboards

The sample I posted above is off of a script for an art house movie concept called Hotel Essex, directed by the enigmatic Jason Schuler

I got this freelance gig to draw story boards at this marketing agency inext week. I'm pretty excited for 2 reasons. 1) it's an on-site job. Meaning, I gotta work in their office. Not that I miss working in an office, but I've been cooped up at home for most of the summer and it's kind of nice to get a change of atmosphere for once. Nothing beats working from home, but there's something to be said for switching it up a li'l. 2) I've been craving more story board work. It's one of the major jobs illustrators do here in LA that I've been looking for any excuse to beef up my story boarding portfolio. Anyone following my blogs in the last few years should know by now that I'm a huge fan of sequential art. I hope I keep getting these gigs because I really want to get better at it. When I was first starting out and had no idea what career future I had in store (sometimes I still wonder), my first job out of school as at a commercial art studio in Chicago called, The Art Bunch. They catered to every major ad agency in the city and contributed to some memorable ad campaigns like the classic Raid Roach animated commercials. They were a great bunch of guys to work with and definitely to learn from, but I only worked with them for 6 months before I moved to New York and started my graphic design career.

In hindsight, I wish that I stuck around longer because I'd have learned a lot more, but I don't regret my decision because I wouldn't be as computer savvy as I am now if I had stayed on the traditional route.
